How Good Are Your Trail Markers?

It doesn’t take long to wonder off an overgrown path with no markers, and let’s face it, unless your customers have the navigation skills of a mountaineering pro, they can find themselves going round in circles only to leave the path on the way to purchasing your product all together.

Imagine if that path was the path to your product and those people walking that path are you potential customers….

Unless you are putting up clear trail markers to point them in the direction you want them to go, then you may as well kiss goodbye to that potential customer, and the money you spent in getting them.

3 Top Tips After 3 Years and 3 Days Back In Biz

Today marks 3 years and 3 days since I ran my very first adventure after shutting Adventure Girls down for five years after loosing everything in the property market crash…

and scheesh have I learnt a thing or two (or three if Im keeping up withe three theme) the second time around.

So here are my 3 Top Tips After 3 Years and 3 Days In Biz….

1. Start Now

You will never be more ready than you are in this very moment. You can come up with a thousand reason you are not ready, but all you need is one to just start.  For what ever reason we think we need to magically be somewhere in order to start our biz, and that we need to know everything right now and we better quit our day jobs.

Let me tell ya this sista…. the fastest way to get growth is to BE IN ACTION.  You can read all the books, make all the plans, have all ‘the best’ strategies… but they don’t mean jack unless you are actually in the arena doing it.

You need to be in action so that you can adjust your sails as you go.

We all have our BS (belief system) that is holding us back… not good enough, not enough time, too old, not old enough, not skilled enough….. like I said you can come up with a thousand reason why not, but all you need is just one to start.

Loosing my mum to pneumonia at 61 was the trigger for me.  I suddenly realised just how short life can be, and that at any moment it can be taken from us, so why would I want to waste another breathe doing the stuff that does matter with the people that don’t.

You don’t have to have it all figures out, because you take that first step the next one will be revealed, then the next and the next, and then like me 3 years and 3 days later you have a biz you love.

 

2. Hold On For The Ride

Starting a biz will single handedly be one of the biggest growth journeys you will ever go on.  You will find out things about yourself that you never even knew.  Some of it will relate to business and some of it won’t.

Some the ride you will love and other times you will want to jump off…. but always remember that there is a way through and on the other side of whatever your feeling isn’t working is growth and a new level of awareness and a new lesson.

Growth, challenges, celebrations, highs, lows and inside outs will come… its the nature of biz, you will learn to grow to be more capable than ever, more resilient than ever, more in tune with who you are and what you stand for.

And girl… it is totally worth moving through the resistance.  What’s on the other side is indescribable.  Hold on for the ride.  You’ve got this.

 

3. Be You

The more you are you, the more you will cut through the noise of all the other marketing and speak directly to the people who need to hear you.  There is no being beige, there is no being a dulled down version of yourself.

Here’s something funny for you…. I thought that I would loose clients when I shaved the side of my head and decided to convert Hank the Tank (my 4X4) so I could travel in him while work… boy was I wrong.

I actually got more clients. Why because I was embracing all of me, removing less of the filter of who I thought I needed to be to be a ‘successful business owner’.

I was no longer toning myself down so others wouldn’t feel weird around me, but more I was doing the things that filled up my happy tank and intern I came from a place of self belief in myself and what I stand for… getting more women out doing more cool shit!

What ever those unexpressed parts you keep burying are because you think the world shouldnt see.. those are the very parts you need to let shine.  They are what make you rad as fuck!

Im not for everyone.. THANK GOD, and you dont need to be in your biz.

You will make more money the more you come home to you.

If you’re a woman with an outdoor obsession or adventure addiction who is wanting to start a biz doing, more likely along side your current job so you can build it up and then step into in the future but you’re not 100% sure how.

Have you ever had the week from hell in your biz where it feels like every freaking thing is going wrong… and not just wrong, but wroooooooong!!!

If you has seen me 1 week ago you would have thought… who that hell is this gal to be coaching anyone.

I was seriously bawling my eyes out last week feeling frustrated at my results.

After a seriously good cry (thrown in with some good self loathing)…. I had a frank conversation with a girl friend and she gave me a straight up, no nonsense talking to.

Yip, even coaches need coaches and even coach loose their shit when they are expanding their businesses.

Any coach who says they don’t is full of shit #justsaying #keepingitreal#everyonegetsgrowingpains

So after digging deep into what was really the problem, because it ain’t always what you think it is…. I ditched a bunch of old stories and beliefs I’d been carrying around for 5 years… whaaaaat!

Yip… 5 years ago I made a small event mean a whole lot about who I was as person and that was impacting me up until last week.

Sneaking little fucker!

And what do you know… what a contrast.

This week has been a freaking epic week. A total reminder that the universe rewards action.

I shifted my focus back to what I wanted, and back into my daily biz journalling.

1 week later these result roll in.

This week has been my best week for turn over and profit for the past 2 months… like totally smashed it out of the park (who says it slows down for christmas…pffft)

I’m getting interviewed by two super rad women for their FB communities… one for biz and one for adventuring.

And I’ve just invited me to be the front page feature on the next edition of the NZ Travel Magazine.

And I now only have one place left for my 1:1 coaching to fill before the end of the year.

WHAT A WEEK.

Feels incredible to know that I created that. We’re more powerful than we know… like seriously!

So if the shit is hitting fan in your biz (which is what it felt like the other week). Know you have the power to turn it all around.

Ok, let’s cut to the chase here, cause you wouldn’t be reading this blog unless you wanted to get to the nitty gritty of just what one of my fav relationship building tools was right.

It’s Email Marketing…

Ta daaaa….
Oh, were you expecting something else maybe?
Yes, I do use a couple of other ways to build a relationship with my existing and prospective customers, but this is by far in my top 3 strats, and the one that I have been using the longest.
I’ve been using email marketing now for well over 15 years (yikes… starting show my age here).

In fact I used to own an email marketing company that managed businesses eNewsletters for them back in the day.

So I am a massive fan of email marketing for building a relationship and direct selling.

If a customer or potential customer has opted in to be on your list it means they want to know what you have to offer. Plain and simple. Otherwise they wouldn’t have opted in.

Does this mean that you bombard them with all your offers… ummmm… NO!

You still gotta ‘date’ them!

What do I mean by date?

You can’t just be ‘take’, take’, ‘take’ and only asking for the sale with every email.

You need to mix it up with giving them relevant free stuff too, be it content, giveaways, programs etc

So here’s a couple of ways I use email marketing to help me sell out of adventures time after time.

UPCOMING ADVENTURES EVERY WEEK

Set the expectation for your customer and then show up! Consistency is such a key to relationship building.

Look at is this way…

Have you ever dated someone who is all over the place, sometimes they are there, sometimes they are not, sometimes they do what they say and sometimes they don’t.

I don’t know about you, but that shit drives me crazy.

Showing up constantly for your potential and existing customers it CRUCIAL.

Lock in a day and time and send your email EVERY TIME AT THAT TIME!

I send my Upcoming Adventures every Wednesday at 10:45am without fail

OK… maybe once or twice every couple of months I drop the ball and don’t send it on that day. And you know the funny thing. I usually get an email from someone asking where it is.

And if you think weekly is too often, then think again.

Every week I’m getting new subscribers, and in summer every weekend I have new adventures, so if I’m only sending once a month then all those new subscribers are missing out o knowing whats coming up… and we can’t have that.

If your content is relevant and they want to know more, they will stay on your list.

 

EMAIL SEQUENCES

These are golden… If you’re asking “what’s an email sequence”, then you’re missing out on an epic automation tool.

If you’re using an email programme like mailchimp or aweber, they should have this feature and you do wanna use it!

This feature lets you take anyone who signs up along a journey into working with you, and set up right can increase your conversions by 25%

 

SENDING THEM FREE BLOG CONTENT

Every week I create a new blog with content thats relevant to my audiences, and each week I send out that blog to those that have asked for it.

So every week I’m giving something for free to my prospective and existing clients.
Just like this blog you’re reading now.

Relationships are a two way street… it can’t be all selling, there has to be some giving.

6 Daily Habits To Help Ditch Overwhelm And Catapult Cashflow In Ya Biz!

Biz Hacks - 6 Daily Habits

Ok, so you’ve started your biz while you’re still doing the 9-5 thing, big props to you… but the overwhelm of trying to ‘do it all’ is getting to you and you’re feeling spent, burnt out and wondering what its all for.

It looks like everyone else is on easy street and has their stuff together while your burning the midnight oil trying to not loose your shit.

You got so much you want to get done, and you don’t even know where to start and your thinking…. argh, what the hell am I doing this all for!

And to make things worse you’re just not getting the clients you want, so your cashflow is more like a cashblock. All that overwhelm is blocking the money from flowing into your biz.

Holy moly sista, that’s enough for even me to wanna throw in the towel.

But before you do, I wanna let ya in a not so secret secret that helped me ditch the overwhelm, get productive on the shit that matters and boost my cashflow in my biz.

It aint a secret in the fact that most biz coaches will share this with you in one way or another, and they all have their own twist on it.
And of course I’ve tweaked it to work the best for me… but the basis of it remains the same across all the teachings.
So here are my 6 Daily Habits to Help Ditch Overwhelm and Boost Cashflow in Ya Biz…

BIG FREAKING NOTE: The key to them is the sequence in which you do them. Switch the order up and you’ll find yourself right back where you started.

Each of these actions are done in this order so that you can get the most important tasks done first, not wasting your time first thing clearing emails

I repeat NOT CLEARING EMAILS FIRT THING!

These habits are designed for you to steer the ship, not for everyone elses demands to derail you.

And yes, they take practice, and yes even I don’t always follow them every single day.

These days I know that if I’m straying from my habits I’m going through a growth phase in the biz and there is resistance around stretching myself with some of the actions I’ve set.

And as I say in all my Biz Hacks, this is not the ONE AND ONLY thing I do to consistently sell out of adventures, and book epic clients.

It’s one of many different puzzle pieces that fit together to form a strong foundation of mindset tools, well oiled systems and tried and tested systems.

So, give this a go for a month and see what happens in your biz.

1. INTENTIONAL JOURNALING

I bet ya didn’t see that one coming! The first thing I do every morning before I start work is journal. Now not just any kind of journaling…. intentional journaling. Why journal and what’s the difference?

Journaling warms you brain up, it allows it to be creative, to be free to write what’s coming up for you, what you’re noticing, so you can tune you mind in on what you want to focus on.

You wouldn’t hit the weights at the gym without warming up properly and the same goes for you biz.

Intentional Journaling is all about answering questions that allow your brain to search for the answer, and directly focus it in on areas.

Ie How can the universe help me today? This presupposes that the universe will help you, and you’re brain searches for ways it can.

Or, Where is there evidence that my biz is already a success? Your brain has to; again, go looking for the answer and produce facts and scenarios that your biz is successful.

And an epic side effect from seeing what you write down is a boost you confidence as you see the evidence in front of you that you are writing.

So imagine if after 20 mins of journaling in the morning you could connect into your message and your ultimate clients, know that you’re on track and see the evidence in front of you…. image how that would make you feel as you get started on your day!

Thats why the very first thing you do before you open your computer in the morning is Intentional Journaling

2. KNOW THY MONEY OR BOOKING GOAL

Ok, so your brain is all warmed up from journaling and you’re now ready to get started, BUT before you crack into the tasks at hand…

Thou shall know thy money or booking goal.

Let’s address something first though. If you are not setting yourself a money or booking goal then you need to start doing that right now…. like right now!

Stop reading this and work out how much money you need to be creating or how many bookings you need to be taking weekly so you know where you’re heading and if you are on track.

You can’t measure what you’re tracking, and if you’re in biz, then babe you need to know how much cash needs to be flowing into your biz.

This trips up so many start up stary eye solorepreneurs, who haven’t had to consider this in the jobs you’re worked in.

So, if you don’t already, this is the time to set your weekly money or booking goal.

Now if you do know ya money goal or your booking goal, thats rad!

The reason this is in as the second habit is so you can see where you’re tracking for the week.

At the start of the day take a look at your goal, whats come in and whats left to do.

From here you can choose to steer the ship in a different direction if you’re not where you want to be.

This is the power in knowing thy numbers!

 

3. MONEY MAKING OR SALES ACTIONS

The basic formula for biz is money in – money out = money left over

Rocket science I know right?!?! But you’ll be surprised how far down the list people put their money making or sales actions.

These are the first things you should spend your time on… why… because in order to bring money into your kick ass biz you gotta be putting action into that area.

Whether it’s creating an email sequence, writing you newsletter, posting a testimonial online, private messaging a raving fan, following up on a sales call, reaching out to guest blog, asking a friend to share your event, or a truck tonne other activities, these have gotta be done straight off the bat.

Your energy is fresh, your connected to you message from journaling and you know where you need to put your focus so go get em tiger!

Now you are cringing at the thought of the word ‘sales’, and you picture a icky sales person who’s trying to sell you shit you don’t need, then this is the perfect opportunity for growth.

Sales is a natural part of biz, and there are plenty of ways you can be in 100% integrity while you’re sharing you’re message with the world.

One of the ways I love to look at this is, that selling is all about building relationships with your ultimate client in a way that is authentic and real.

You have to build trust in order for people to wanna invest in you, and you have gotta be solving a problem that they have.

When your ultimate client knows, likes and trusts you, they will with easy choose to work with you.

So if you have any blocks around sales and money, I’d invite you to start exploring how to move through these to open up the flood gates to letting the money flow into your biz.

And in the meantime, make sure you set yourself between 3 and 10 sales actions a day to build your money momentum.

 

4. GROWTH ACTIONS

In order for your biz to evolve and grow you have to take actions towards that… ok, that sounds a little too simple.
Let me break it down for you.

Each day you wanna aim to be taking an action towards those things that you have set up as part of your long term growth ie increasing your database, creating content to use as lead generations, writing chapters of your book, launching a new event or program.

This stuff is super important for the bigger vision of your biz, and can be easily tackled on a daily basis, so you don’t have a massive daunting task to do all at once.

Think about growth actions as the stuff that is going to pull your biz forward into the next level.

If this action isn’t done consistently, you biz will hit a point of stagnation, and you’ll wonder why your biz, your clients and you cashflow isn’t growing.

 

5. ADMIN ACTIONS

So here is the action that usually gets done first. You start ya day by opening your computer and start checking all you fav sites …

*cough* Facebook. *cough*, and ya emails… nex-minit, 30mins or even an hour has gone by and you’ve so far down the rabbit whole of scrolling aimlessly through Gloatbook (sorry… Facebook) that you’re brain has disengaged, or worse it’s in a state of comparison, and not in a useful way… grrrr!

Or you’re now ‘busy’ replying to everyone elses requests before you get onto the stuff that’s gonna bring in the money.

Yes, I get that there are potential clients in your emails, and yes you need to get back to them and the other things in there… I’m not saying they are not important.

I’m saying that once you’re in your emails it’s a vortex of bumping your sales actions.

So save this task and your fiddly admin jobs for a couple hours in the afternoon. If you’re onto this daily then people messaging you won’t be waiting more than 24 hour to hear from you.

And I can promise you that the consistent money making action will produce the cashflow you’ve been longing for!

 

6. REVIEW, RESET & REPEAT

Before you hit the shut down button on your computer, take 15mins to do a review on ya day and reset for tomorrow, so you can repeat.

So much expansion and growth happens when you review your day.

In here you can look for the lessons from the shit that didn’t work, you can check your progress on your monthly goals, review your targets, see where you’re getting derailed during the day, see what money making actions are getting the best results.

You can have a series of questions you can run through at the end of the day… things like

  • What’s one thing thats not working that I can stop doing
  • What’s money making action is getting me the best results
  • Did I reach my money or booking goal, is so why?, if not what can I do to get back on track

Make sure they are crafted to pull out all the golden nuggets from the day the you can use to catapult your biz forward.

Then from that, reset your money or booking goal, get clear on your money and growth actions, and you are good to go for tomorrow.
