Pass Me The Blow Torch

By | Adventure Girls Blog | No Comments

Pass Me The Blow Torch… The other day I was out with Hank the Tank (ummm… thats my 4WD, and yes, thats his name) and we were having some fun boosting up the estuary on Muriwai Beach.

Little did I know in all that fun I’d popped one of his indicator lights out… wawaaaaa.

So the next day Im like dad, can we have a look at this so I can do get a new one.

Half way through our ‘discussion’ my bro turns up home and is like, oh, you can have my old ones you just need to rewire them up to Hank.

Cue the blank look on my face… righto, and how do we do that.
Nex minnit, he’s showing me how to clip the wires, solder them together, and then apply heat shrink (or something like that) with a blow torch… WITH A BLOW TORCH.

An hour and a half later with all the right tools I’ve wired in two new front indicators, and switched out my nudge bar and I know a shit tonne more about how things work in Hank the Tank.

If I’d tried to do this by looking shit up on the internet it would have taken me all day… like all day, and I probably would have just brought a new one.

But here’s the thing, all it takes is for someone who knows what they are doing to help fast track your learning so you can get on with things and you have that skill forever.

Just like in biz, whether you’re starting from scratch and you’re too afraid to start cause you’re not clear on what your first step is or even how your biz will look.

or if you’ve got this started, but your just going round in circles stuck in a pattern of doing the same things and not getting any more bookings and driving yourself nuts.

Sometime you just need that person to go… oh hey, heres how you can get to where you wanna go, and they can hold your hand along the way so you can get there faster.

So if you’re thinking of starting an adventure biz and you’ve never done anything like that before,

or you’re already doing stuff, but you’re not getting the traction you want

and you’re over feeling the way you do

let me help you fast track your start up and your growth by tapping into every tool, tip, trick, strategy and hack I’ve used to start Adventure Girls (twice) and used to help my clients kick start their adventure biz.

Getting Things Started with Your Business

By | Adventure Girls Blog | No Comments

In 2005 I first launched Adventure Girls…. I ran it for three and a half years and then had to shut it down when I lost everything in the property market crash.

I was devastated.

I had it mean so much about me…

Im a failure, who am I to run a biz, I know jack shit, who would want to with someone who’s been bankrupt…

My self confidence in running my biz was rock bottom.

I honestly thought I’d never run another biz again.

But here’s the thing… your soul calls to you even when your head is like… ummmm…. no, not me.

You feel that niggly feeling that your here for more.

It’ took loosing my mum suddenly nearly 5 years ago for me to go realise that life is too short to buy into the BS of the past and realise that I can re-write my future.

And so Adventure Girls was reborn 4 years ago, and is doing the best it’s ever done.

It took a whole lot of letting go, re-framing past experiences, leaning into fear and still stepping up.

It’s been one hell of an adventure… and it certainly aint over.

That calling to do more in the space of your outdoor addiction, you adventure obsession… you can.

If I can come back from shutting my biz down to now selling out of most of my adventures months out….

Then you can start yours.

You don’t have to quit your day job.

You don’t have to sell a kidney to get things started.

You do have to be willing to step up into the unknown and be willing to grow and expand.

If you have an outdoor addiction or an adventure obsession that you want to turn into a part time biz, then you and I let’s talk.

Lets see how we can break down your idea into esy to roll out steps so you can get started today…. YES… TODAY.

Its easier than you think, if you’re willing to let go of the blocks.

Bad Ass Fades & Learning Not To Give A F**k In Your Biz

By | Adventure Girls Blog | No Comments

I can guarantee you as your reading this that there is something in your biz you wanna do, but so some reason you’re holding back because you’re giving too much of a fuck of what other people are either doing or you think their gonna say.

Maybe you wanna develop that new adventure, maybe you wanna start doing blogs, maybe you wanna get in front of the camera, maybe you wanna change tact and add another revenue stream to your biz.

The art of not giving a fuck and just doing it doesn’t always come easily to everyone

It’s only in the past 4-5 years I’ve started to be able to do this more, but even to this day I still find hidden fears of what people will think that stop me from taking that step in the biz I’ve been wanting to.

Just over a month ago I finally shaved the side of my head. Something I’ve wanted to do for years.

What stopped me?

The BS that people would take me seriously, that I’d be judged for looking too butch, that who would date a girl with a shaved head (yes that was a real judgement on myself), and the freaking list goes on.

But here’s the thing.

People are gonna judge anyway, side fade or no side fade so I may as well do what I wanna do for myself.

And here’s the funny thing.

Since getting a fade I’ve gotten more clients.

Why?

Because I’ve embraced a part of me that was hidden in the fear of judgment of others.

Was it easy… ummmm… yes and no.

Once I decided, it was a no brainer hell yeah, but leading up to it I kept drifting between being ready to step out and do, and then think wtf!
Not giving a fuck takes practise… it takes really finding that place in yourself to trust yourself in the decisions you make.

To let people have their opinions and to not let it affect you.

So here’s my invitation to you adventure babe in biz.

That thing you’ve been not doing in your biz because you’re worried about what others will say…

Write down the fears you have around it, and then look at that list and know that it’s all just BS you’re telling yourself cause it feels ‘easier’ to stay where you are than to move through the fear to see what’s on the other side.

And from there you can choose.

Choose to stay in the story and know that at anytime you can step out.

Or choose to give yourself permission ‘work that stuff out’ WHILE you just freaking do it! FUCKING DO IT!

You got this girl.

If you need some butt kicking in either starting your biz or taking it to the next level in the space of not giving a fuck, then you and I, let’s talk.

I’ve got three 90 min sessions available in my calendar.

4 Places I Get My Epic Leads From

By | Adventure Girls Blog | No Comments

Getting leads is one thing, getting epic leads is a whole other playing field.

Anyone can find new peps to share their stuff with, but finding the right peps the totally dig what you’re doing and want to be a part of it… that’s the kinda lead I’m talking about.

The simple fact is why would you want to spend time, money and energy talking to those that really aren’t vibing with your adventures?

Kinda sounds like you’re wasting money and thats just silly to me #sorrybutnotsorry

So after 7+ years of running Adventure Girls and countless trying to get leads magazine advertising, expos, posters… you name it and I have probably tried it.

Im finding these 4 are working the most effectively for me at the moment.

MeetUp

If you’re running adventures and you’re not on meetUp then you are missing out on a MASSIVE opportunity. Leads cost me 3cents in here… yip 3cents. If you wanna know how to use meetUp to gain leads I did a 20 min training vid on this. You can watch it here for free.

Facebook Ads

Using Facebook ads to either promote Freebees, or to retarget offers to brings in great results. I use and expert to help create the ad because Facebook is ever changing and it is not my zone of genius! Plenty of money can be wasted in here if you don’t know what you’re doing, so be sure to get some great strategies first or pay an expert to do these for you.

Facebook Groups

Being a member of groups with your target audience is freaking awesome for connecting one on one with people. The key thing is to remember to follow the groups rules (no one like a desperate spammer… ewwwww no!), and show up consistently as the expert in the space your in so you can be the go to girl. So for me it’s being the go to girl for adventure in NZ and more specially womens adventures.

Freebees

What content do you have that you can create a pdf or video with that speaks to potential epic leads? Challenges, How To’s, Blogs…. there are so many different ways to provide free content to engage with peps. My Adventure Girls 30 Day Challenge is one of my best performing freebees for adventures, and my MeetUp 20 min training video above is my best performing freebees for coaching.

Growing New Connections vs Nurturing Existing Connections

By | Adventure Girls Blog | No Comments

So which one do you invest more time into?

In one simple word… BOTH!

Without new leads your biz will not grow and expand as every customer has a life cycle in any biz… that’s a fact! And it’s different for every business depending on what they are selling.  And also with out looking after those customers you have, your throwing money down the drain.

New Connections

Your biz is kinda like a rock pool… a super rad rock pool I must say too.  With no water feeding into it, your rock pool will slowly empty out and dry up.

If you are not investing time, money or energy into growing new connections, when people drop away from working with you, as they naturally do (don’t take it personally girl, one thing that is constant is change) you’ll hit a point in your biz where you’ll either have no more people to come to your adventures, or they will have already done them all.

You need to create ways of letting the water flow in. There are so many different ways to generate new leads, its a matter of finding one or two that work for you, your style, how you like to do things.

And remember, fresh water is great as it bring fresh energy with it also.

Existing Connections

Nurturing existing relationships all about building trust and showcasing what you do with those peps that see what you do, like what you do and want to know more about what you do with the possibility of getting involved with what you’re doing.

Make sure you have great systems in place to stay in touch regularly with peps, and to regularly let them know how they can work with you or join you on your next adventure.

Remember, it’s all about finding the balance of giving relevant content that is inspiring and engaging and inviting people to join you on your adventures.

If you feel like you’re not sure if you what you’re doing for generating new leads and then nurturing those relationships is getting you the bookings you want, then you and I, let’s talk biz strategy.

Stop Undervaluing What You Provide

By | Adventure Girls Blog | No Comments

How can I make money on what people can organise themselves for cheaper?

OMG… You wouldn’t believe the number of times I hear this from women wanting to launch their adventure biz… seriously!

Girl you gotta stop under valuing what you provide for peps.

Like, legit, you gotta stop that!

You’re selling yourself short and you’re not owning what you’re creating for all those other amazing women out there.

Here’s a four truth bombs to set ya straight on this

#1 If people could do it themselves they would be, but they aren’t.

Simple as that. They wanna do it, but like every other person it seems out there, they are too busy, or they don’t know where to start. So you’re providing a service of organising it all for them.

#2 You’re providing the SERVICE OF SIMPILCITY

This is where the value of what you do it. This is why you charge what you do. You’re spending time, money and energy on creating, collating and running an experience, all to provide the SERVICE OF SIMPILCITY. There is a value on that. A dollar value to be exact.

#3 If they are into organising it themselves then they are not your client

At the end of the day what you provide is not for everyone. If someone is into doing that for themselves, then awesome for them! The fact of the matter is, if you are trying to be everything for everyone, you’ll waste valuable energy trying to convince those that aren’t for you that they need you. When you’re far better off focusing on those peps that a good fit for you.

#4 Look beyond this limiting belief to see what is the real fear behind

Yeah, we’re gonna go there sista. So much of launching and running a biz is around mindset as much as it is strategy. And the hidden fears behind the limiting beliefs we keep telling ourselves have a bigger impact than what we realise. We mask a deeper fear with a limiting belief, and present that to the world because it feels less vulnerable. Ask yourself, what is the deeper fear… fear or rejection if you launch, fear of failing if no one books your adventures, fear of getting it wrong, fear of things not being perfect, fear of judgement…. what’s the real hidden fear?

It’s time to start valuing the service you provide girl, and begin to make money in your biz.

If you’re wanting to kick start running adventures as another revenue stream for your current biz or along side your not as much fun day job, or…

You’re already trying to run adventures and they just aren’t getting the numbers you want,

Then you and I, let’s talk.

Let’s grab 20 mins on the phone together to talk about what you want to you really want to be making from your adventures and where the gaps are so you can come away pumped ready to kick ass and make some money.

Find a time here that works best for you.

Two Reasons Your Not Making The Profit You Should Be On Adventures

By | Adventure Girls Blog | No Comments

So you put all this time, money and effort into creating, promoting and then selling out of your adventures, you’ve slogged you guts out, pushed yourself sooo far outside you’re comfort zone you wouldn’t even recognise it if it slapped you in the face….

All that effort, only then figure out after you’ve run it, that it actually make any money…stink!

All that hard work, down the toilet so to say.

Well, maybe not all of it.

The good news is you have some foundation to rework your costings on so you can run your next one and come away with some cash money AND have a fun day getting some rad women outdoor.

Here are two reasons I see time and time again that women like you aren’t making as much as you should when you’re running adventures so you can go back over your numbers and start profiting like a lady boss on your adventures.

#1 Pricing

Not Pricing Your Adventure Properly

Its under estimated the time that goes into pre and post adventure prep, and often this is not reflected in the price that I see women pricing their adventures at.

It’s so common to hear ‘but how can I charge for something they can do themselves or for less’….aaaaargh!  Keep an eye out for a blog to come from this specific topic next week.

So here’s three questions to ask yourself to when pricing your adventure.

  • How much do you want to make from the day
If you don’t know how much you want to make on the day, how can you set your prices once you have your costing.  Always start with the end in mind. Consider how long you will be out for the day, plus pre and post adventure prep.  Don’t undervalue your time….oh hell no!
  • What is your break even number?
How many bookings do you need in order to break even, too high and if you don’t get the numbers you’ll be running at a lose or worse still cancelling your adventures (huge warning… you don’t want to be known as the person that cancels adventures, so my very strong suggestion is that you go all out and sell out, or at the very least reach your minimum numbers).  You need to find the right mix here.
  • What expenses are you missing out the are chipping away at your profit.
    This segways perfectly into #2

#2 Unaccounted For Expenses

3 Hidden Expenses That Are Eating Into Your Profit

  • Paypal/credit card fees
Every little bit stacks up over time. 3% on every transaction over a 12 month is well over 1k off your bottom line. Make sure you’re putting it in.  You might be reading this and thinking its obvious, but let me tell ya… it’s left out 50% of the time.
  • Mileage
Are you factoring the cost to drive your vehicle to and from the adventure. Not just the petrol, but the wear and tear on it from use.  If you’re in NZ the rate is currently 73c per km.  Make sure you check it out in your country and make sure ya put it in!
  • GST
Are all the expenses GST inclusive? Some adventure providers quote without GST, which makes a MASSIVE difference to calculating your price to charge and of course your profit.  I remember the first time I priced an adventure without including the GST for the supplier component, and it cost me $350 in profit…. its fair to say I’ve not done that again.

We All Have A Choice On How We Do Life And Biz

By | Adventure Girls Blog | No Comments

Biz doesn’t always go to plan and knowing we have a choice to make it different really sucks sometimes!

Sometimes the blame game, playing the victim, becoming overwhelmed, over compensating (or what ever it is you’re doing) feels a hell of a lot easier.

You can hide behind this ‘stuff’ consciously or unconsciously.

To know that we alone can choose what path we wanna walk…. dam you responsibility.

This can feel confronting.

When ya come from a place of choice, that’s really where the power is to shape your biz.

Choose how you want you biz to be for you girl!

Do you want it to struggle with the lessons that come (because that fact is they will), or do you want it to find the lesson and take it forward to grow and expand from?

Is it ‘easier’ to choose to take responsibility…. ummmmm…. not always.

Does it take practise…. kinda.

Will you always have your shit together… nup.

But…

Will you be the one in charge of the direction you wanna take your biz… yip.

Does it feel good to know you are the captain of your ship… fuck yes!

So I’m curious to know… what comes up for you when you read this?

Can you see where in your biz your not stepping up to the responsibility plate, putting ya hand up and saying…

oh my bad, I totally haven’t been owning my awesome and have been hiding out behind a bunch of tactics to keep me here where it’s safe.

So where have you been hiding out in your biz babe and not taking responsibility?
